God Help America, Blessings Aren't Enough Anymore

I just returned from a 10 day vacation. Not the typical vacation where you go somewhere, stay in a hotel for a week or two then go home. I went on a real road trip. 10 days, 7 states, 2500 miles in a 20 foot long Buick Park Avenue. I didn't watch any TV, didn't get on Facebook, read very little email, and didn't follow the news. I just had a great time visiting friends, playing golf, eating good food, and saw America like it used to be. I was in small towns, farming country, where most everyone drove a truck or an SUV. I had to wonder more than a few times how much success Obama is going to have when he tries to force these people to trade their 4WD trucks that get them around in snowstorms for a Toyota Prius or a Fiat 500 re-badged as a Chrysler whatever. Not much I suspect.

But what choices will there be? The choice will be to finance Obama's new ballooning government largess with the trucks people need to make it through the winter, the cars they need to haul groceries, kids, and car seats from Costco, ball games, and the ballet, as well as the electricity they need to read the newspaper when it's dark outside. While none of our representatives are reading these 1000+ page bills Nancy Pelosi and Obama are shoving down our throats, our very way of life is being taken away so that Obama can call himself the savior of the 21st century. The really frustrating part of that is we don't need saving. We need to be left alone. People want to be left alone, and they are pretending they are being left alone in very large numbers. That isn't happening though. We are being assaulted daily by a government totally out of control.

Before leaving on my vacation I couldn't understand how Americans were letting this happen. While on my travels I figured it out. People are just ignoring what the fools in Washington are doing, and they are getting on with their lives. There is a recession out there. People are worried about their jobs if they haven't been laid off already, and worried about paying the bills if they have. Even those who have plenty of money are hunkered down, going to Wal-Mart instead of the mall. No one is waiting for a seat in the expensive restaurants, but McDonald's is slap full. Every McDonald's for 2500 miles was teeming with activity. The parking lots are full of Mercedes SUVs, Lexus LS430s, BMW 750iLs, along with the Hondas, Chevys, and all of the trucks, so many trucks, most of them 4WD.

All the folks are trusting that the government is trying to do the right thing. After all, Obama talks a very good game. Every day he is on TV he reassures the folks, and so they just ignore the obvious. It doesn't hurt that Obama's minions are very clever, especially when it comes to sleight of hand. While you watch the right rand, the left is doing something entirely different. While Obama is on TV pushing health care last month, the House passed the Cap and Trade bill, the largest tax increase the free world has ever seen, plus it will completely alter our lives forever. But hardly anyone is paying attention. Almost no one even knows what Cap and Trade means. Sad, but true.

During the 10 days I was on the road I didn't pay any attention to it either, but it haunted me at night before I went to sleep. I didn't watch Fox one time. The TV was on at some of the homes I visited, but it was turned to the bike race in France, ESPN, the new show, "In Plain Sight", but no one was watching the news. We talked a little about it, but for the most part everyone I know thinks I am a bit of an alarmist, especially since they heard about the visit the FBI paid me after the second Tea Party, on April 15th in Atlanta.

I am home now, I've spent the day catching up with Obama calling out a policeman for doing his job, then when it’s obvious he didn’t know what he was talking about, he invites the whole bunch to the White House for a beer, thereby avoiding the reality of his racism. The Senate is confirming an activist judge in Sotomayor, but we all knew that was a lock, and mostly the President is campaigning still, this time for his government health care plan, while Pelosi twists the arms of the Blue Dog Democrats. In the end they will pass a bill so watered down with payoffs for the elected elite class it will cost us double what it should cost. It won't work either, so later, when it isn't such an issue, they will change the watered down bill into the Socialistic government run system Obama is determined to have.

It will be down the road in a year or three when people realize everything they have lost. And then they will turn their attention to what the democrats are doing now. By that time, we will no longer be a free republic. We will be a Social Democracy, just like the Europeans from whence we came. We fled that continent to create the greatest nation of all time, and now the baby boomer generation, the largest single generation in the nation's history is allowing the government to rob our freedom and steal our liberty, while we worry about our 401ks, our pensions, and our falling home values. I am no longer angry about it though. I can understand how easy it is to ignore the facts. But I won't stand by and do nothing. I will continue to write letters, to post Facebook links, write in blogs, email all 100 Senators, and I will go to Washington on 9/12/2009. I hope to God someone is there to lead us out of this godforsaken wilderness. We certainly need a modern day Moses, at the very least. The other side has the perfect anti-Christ, even if he isn't one. God help America, blessings aren’t enough anymore.
